Eight Schools Participated In 2016 Event
Herts GAA are delighted be running our secondary school tournament again this year on Friday 20th October 2017. Years 7 & 8 teams from schools across the County will be taking part in the busy one day event.
John F Kennedy (JFK) Catholic School in Hemel Hempstead will be hosting the event, as part of their 50th Golden Jubilee Year celebrations. Playing host to the tournament, for the second consecutive year, Jack Joyce from JFK PE department is relishing the opportunity:
‘In 2016/17 John F Kennedy Catholic School were lucky enough to host the Gaelic Secondary Catholic Schools competition. It's a prestigious tournament with schools competing from surrounding counties. Eight schools participated in the tournament last year and the standard was exceptionally high. Each school brought one or two teams of mixed abilities ranging from years seven to eight. Stephen Lavery (Hertfordshire CDA) and his team were phenomenal in the organisation and administration of the day offering excellent refereeing and support to team managers and players.
As part of our 50th Golden Jubilee year we are incredibly proud to host the tournament for the 2017/18 season. The school has always played a huge role in the development of community and upholding our cultural heritage. Gaelic Football is a great way to achieve this. The support from the sport and its officials have been superb. The tournament was also excellent preparation for the All Britain Championships which is historically one of the highlights of the year for Gaelic football. We look forward to another year of School Gaelic football.’
Preparations continue over the coming weeks. Any schools interested in entering a team should contact Stephen Lavery, our County CDA at cda.hertfordshire@gaa.ie
