Best of Luck Stephen
We would like to announce our CDA Stephen Lavery has moved onto pastures new, being appointed as the Head of Games Development and Operations for Britain. While our hearts are heavy and we will hugely miss him, we are so extremely proud of his amazing achievement and we know he will thrive in his new role. Hertfordshire’s loss is Britain’s gain.
Since joining Hertfordshire 7 years ago, Stephen has been instrumental in the enormous development in our county due to his unbelievable dedication and passion. Before his arrival, schools coaching in our county was nearly non-existent and Stephen’s legacy in our County will be the sheer amount of Schools which now include Gaelic Football in their yearly school PE curriculum. The evidence of this is are the yearly schools’ tournaments for secondary & primary school students, instrumented by Stephen- in particular our Year ¾ primary schools’ tournament which became the biggest Schools Gaelic Tournament in Britain. Stephen has such passion for every single club in our county- always there for help and guidance whenever needed and we know he will continue
Every coach, player, parent and supporter of Hertfordshire GAA knows how extremely lucky we are to have had Stephen as our CDA- which can be seen below from the messages from our Clubs:
Stephen St. Dympnas Club would like to thank you for all your hard work and support, as you worked efficiently and effectively as our CDA. We would like you to know as a Club how much we have appreciated your investment in all our Children’s lives, in Hertfordshire through Underage Gaelic football. The work you tirelessly undertook in local and surrounding schools, was done to an exceptional standard. You made lots of good friends here in Luton within our Club and beyond, you will be greatly missed. Lastly, we would like to congratulate you on your new position as, Head of Games Development and Operations with Britain GAA.
We know you will do as good a job at that as you did as our CDA.
Regards- All at St. Dympnas
Stephen, thanks so much for all your support and guidance throughout the years to help develop our players and volunteers. You have been instrumental in creating a fantastic youth section across the county. On behalf of Glen Rovers GAA Club, we wish you and your new family all the best in the future. All the best!
St Joseph’s wish Stephen all the very best in his new ventures. He will be missed. He was a massive help in so many ways; to name but a few... gaelic 4 girls program, cul clubs, training sessions, club training & courses. His organisation with the ABC'S is phenomenal as all children across the clubs have benefited. He was always on the end of the phone if you needed anything.
A truly nice gent, always with a big smile. He took time to talk to all and knew the kids by names!
We wish him all the very best with his new baby daughter, his move and new job.
Go n-eirí an t-ádh leat.
On behalf of Cambridge Parnells, I'd like to wish Stephen all the very best in his new role and to thank him for the years of hard work supporting Gaelic Games in Hertfordshire and Cambridge in particular. His help has been invaluable in establishing youth teams at our club, leading to memorable times for our players winning Féile with the county. He has always handled himself with professionalism, kindness and humour - on and off the field - and no doubt our loss will be the Province's gain. Our best wishes to him, Margaret and Meabh on the next exciting steps.
Go n-éirí leat agus slán go fóill
Cormac Ryan
Chairperson, Cambridge Parnells GAC
Put simply, Stephen is the best CDA in Britain.
His help with setting up our Nursery programme eight years ago was a huge contributor to firing our Youth programme back into life. Stephen has been a constant supporter over the years and has helped us with numerous schools’ programmes and developing our club. Stephen’s name will always be inextricably linked to the amazing Herts Primary Schools tournament and he has carried on this success with his organisation of the All Britain Championships. He’ll be sorely missed by all of us at St Colmcilles but we acknowledge that he now has a higher calling in his new job!
We’d like to wish him every success in the future- Evolve or Die!!
From all of us here at Éire Óg we would like to send a huge thank you to Stephen for everything he has done over the years in the county and especially with our club. Since 2014 he has been an integral part of the culture in the county. He really drove us to re-establish our youth setup in 2015 and it's starting to pay dividends now. Some of these kids are breaking into our senior team and 3 are on the Féile team
It always felt like Stephen wanted what was best for each club and never let club rivalries get in the way - best of luck to you in the new role we all know you will be fantastic and if you ever need anything from us at Éire Óg we would be very happy to oblige.
Everyone at St Vincent’s Underage would like to take this opportunity to wish Stephen the best of luck with his new job, new home and starting a family. Stephen will be a big loss to all the clubs in the Hertfordshire County as he worked relentlessly to ensure that every club got the help and support required to strengthen their position within the County. When a few of us decided to get the underage up and running again at St Vincent’s after a big absence it was Stephen we turned to. After meeting Stephen, he could see we had the passion to make a great underage again and he was only too willing to be of assistance this included: getting our coaches trained, attending all the necessary courses, giving us advertising ideas and funding avenues. He also shadowed us for 6 weeks to make sure our coaches were up to scratch. It’s fair to say that St Vincent’s underage wouldn’t be as successful as it is now without Stephen's help. If Stephen takes the same passion and work ethic to his new role, we are sure he will be a great success. From all the Committee, coaches, kids and parents, we can’t thank him enough. All the best and we hope to see you again soon.
All of us at Claddagh’s, both past & present would like to thank Stephen Lavery for his support & involvement with our club over the past 7 years. Stephen was instrumental in the birth our underage sector, giving girls in Luton the opportunity to play Gaelic - a sport that was not widely accessible within our town before this. Stephen’s impact on our club is evident with the amount of our current senior panel who have been coached by Stephen, either in their School, Cul Camps or in various underage settings. Stephen truly cares for every single club in the county, constantly looking for ways they can improve and always being at hand to help you achieve your goals as a club.
We wish you the very best in your next chapter and again, we cannot thank you enough for what you have done for Claddaghs.
The future of our county is looking extremely bright thanks to Stephen, and the county will continue to develop with the guidance he has given us over the years.
We wish you all the very best in your next Chapter!
Ailish Gaughan will stand in as CDA until the role is filled permanently.
