Lengthy spell on the sidelines for Dublin defender.
Dublin defender Kevin O’Brien is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after confirmation that he has sustained cruciate knee damage.
The results of a scan this morning revealed the damage to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee.
O’Brien sustained the injury in an accidental collision while playing for DIT in the Sigerson Cup quarter-final defeat to UUJ at Parnells GAA Club in Coolock on Thursday.
The Naomh Mearnóg clubman captained the Dublin U21s to the All-Ireland title in 2012 and played at corner back on the Dublin senior football team for much of the 2013 championship, though he failed to make the starting 15 for the All-Ireland final win over Mayo.
