St Joseph's 4-09 1-09 St Dympna's
The U16 Championship Trophy is heading to Waltham Cross for the second time in three years as St Joseph’s saw off St Dympna’s in St Alban’s on Sunday morning.
In a tightly contested yet well spirited game, some clinical second half finishing made the difference. The sides were neck and neck throughout the first half, with some well taken points underlining the quality both teams had to offer.
With a halftime scoreline of St Joseph’s 2-03 1-05 St Dympna’s, some smart shooting saw the Joe’s pull away, scoring two further goals in the second half. Once they found themselves slipping behind, St Dympna’s threw everything they could at their opponents to reduce the deficit, but St Joe’s were consistently taking the point scoring opportunities that presented themselves. Combining this with some resolute defending and high pressure of St Dympna’s anytime they were in possession, the Joe’s managed to sustain their lead and ultimately win by 4-09 to 1-09.
Presenting the trophy, county CDA Stephen Lavery congratulated both teams for producing a number of young players throughout the last few years who are already making an impact at senior level. There was plenty of praise for both teams as they demonstrated a high level of football which bodes well for the future in Hertfordshire.
