Reports in Australia suggest young Kildare footballer Seán Hurley could join AFL side Fremantle in October.
The official AFL website reports that Hurley and Fremantle are in talks that could see the 22-year-old Johnstownbridge man join the Dockers at the end of the current GAA season.
Hurley took part in the AFL Draft Combine in October 2013, but despite impressing at the time, he was not selected in the rookie draft, unlike his Johnstownbridge and Kildare teammate Daniel Flynn.
"He's been here for a week and a half and he's developing really well at this stage," Fremantle list manager Brad Lloyd said of Hurley at the time. "He's trained strongly. He's a good size. He runs well. He's been very receptive to learning. He's been really positive."
Hurley was not subsequently taken on by Fremantle but they have retained an interest in the player, having been particularly impressed by his aerobic and conditioning levels. He now looks set to follow in the footsteps of Flynn, and another Johnstownbridge man Paul Cribbin, who spent a couple of seasons at AFL side Collingwood before returning to Ireland to play for Kildare.
Unfortunately for Flynn though, his Australian adventure hasn't worked out for him so far. Having signed a two-year rookie contract with Port Adelaide at the end of last season, he returned to Ireland a few weeks ago due to homesickness.
"We'll keep working with Daniel, he has made a two-year commitment to us and he's on a long path but clearly it got to the stage where he was finding it very difficult to stay here," Port Adelaide operations manager Peter Rohde said after his departure.
"He has gone home for an extended period and we hope to get him back sometime during the season. There's no hiding the fact he's battled homesickness all the way through. He won't be around for the immediate future and we'll monitor what happens from there."
While all three of the Johnstownbridge and Kildare stars - Hurley, Cribbin and Flynn - are in Ireland at the moment, Hurley's future would appear to be in Australia, according to the latest reports. He has featured regularly for Kildare so far in the 2014 Allianz Football League, having originally made his championship debut under Kieran McGeeney in 2011.
