Shield Winners - Beaumont, St Albans from last years inaugural event
Our second annual year 9/10 county schools tournament will be held on Thursday the 4th of April 2019. Year 9/10 combined school teams will be taking part in the busy one day event. This tournament also acts as great preparation for all our schools prior to the All Britain Championships (ABC's) In July.
John F Kennedy (JFK) Catholic School in Hemel Hempstead will be hosting the event in its second year. With a number of new schools attending, this years event promises to be one of the most keenly contested yet.
Previous Cup and Shield Winners:
2018:
Cup - St James, Barnet
Shield - Beaumont, St Albans
Jack Joyce, who heads the Gaelic Football programme at JFK had this to say on hosting the event:
“John F Kennedy Catholic school have the huge honour and privilege of hosting this year’s Hertfordshire Secondary Schools GAA competition. It is the fourth year running that JFK have had the privilege of hosting their events. Since introducing the sport four years ago, the students have benefited hugely from the skillful and tactical elements of the game.
With the support of Hertfordshire GAA, JFK have either won or placed in the finals of the shield or cup. This has also led to success at the ABC’s finals with the U13 and U15 teams reaching the semi-finals in the last two seasons.
With the increase in GAA being televised and the funding it has in place the participation levels at JFK have increased dramatically. A huge thank you must to go Herts GAA and Stephen Lavery and the support they continue to offer. JFK look forward to another successful event and season ahead.”
Preparations continue over the coming weeks. Any schools interested in entering a team should contact Stephen Lavery - cda.hertfordshire@gaa.ie.
