A Walk In The Park!
by Marnie O'Neill, Claddagh Gaels PRO
The Claddagh Gaels, Luton’s Ladies Gaelic Football Club, have just announced their donation to Luton & Dunstable Children’s Ward following on from their walk Sponsored in May. After gathering up the last amounts, they have rounded up their donation to £2500.
This was the result from a 5km sponsored walk around Lewsey Park, with more fundraising at the after party in The Pines Hotel. Around 60 people turned out to take a stroll around the marked out route, many wearing their Irish county colours and many with their whole family in tow.
A lot of generosity was apparent with some companies donating hundreds of pounds for the very worth while cause.
Louise Gormley, Chairperson of Claddagh Gaels commented:
“We are delighted that our sponsored walk could raise such a significant amount for the L&D Children’s Ward, as they work they do is so important for the Luton community. It was lovely to have representatives from the hospital and the council at the event, and we look forward to doing more fundraising events for good causes.”
Rachel Cowley, Acting Community Fundraising Officer at L&D Hospital said:
“We’d like to thank the Claddagh Gaels for fundraising a grand total of £2,500 for our Children’s Wards. The group had a brilliant fundraising idea of organising a 5km sponsored walk around Lewsey Park and they have raised a huge amount of money. Thanks to The Claddagh Gaels we can continue to provide the services we do here in the Children’s Wards and make a real difference to the families here. We hope their efforts may encourage more community groups to come forward.”
