Various Volunteers From Across Our County
Hertfordshire GAA minor board proudly played host to their celebration of achievement evening last Saturday as representatives from across the county were in attendance to show their appreciation for the successes achieved throughout 2017.
Hosted chiefly by minor board treasurer Rebecca Caroll–Griffin and Minor Board chairman Micky Foy, boys and girls from Under 8 to under 16 at club and county level were recognised for their dedication and commitment throughout a year which surpassed expectations.
As well as coaches and mentors, player’s parents and guardians were also invited to attend and turned out in good numbers, as our minor board recognised the role they play on a daily basis in ensuring our underage teams continue to train, play and develop. A number of sponsors also made the occasion and were dedicated awards, as their financial backing assisted in the purchase of our teams jerseys, equipment and trips to Feile.
A number of local schools within the county were also present and thanked for the continued integration of GAA into their activities, with a special mention and presentation to John F Kennedy, Hemel Hempstead who hosted our 2017 secondary school’s tournament.
Hugely important to the continued achievements of our minor teams have consistently been the volunteers who participate and lend a hand in any way they can. The continued time, patience and logistical support that keeps everything ticking behind the scenes to help our youngsters fulfil their potential is critical to our success. It was important that those people were included and recognised as part of the celebrations of achievement, with numerous volunteers from all club’s county wide receiving awards on the night.
Herts GAA would like to thank all those who contributed, not only on the evening but also across the season in achieving an all-time high in young player participation in Hertfordshire. The numbers speak for themselves, as this year’s ABC’s saw the highest ever number of teams (44) represented from our county. 2017 also saw Herts bring a girl’s team to Feile at U14 level and a win for our county in the inaugural All Britain Feile.
Plans are already afoot for this to development to continue as we look forward to the 2018 season and further breaking the records set this year.
